A Unique Boutique University

The National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) is a distinctive boutique university. As an institution under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Defence Malaysia (MINDEF), UPNM offers a holistic educational approach that integrates academic excellence, leadership development, and elements of national defence.

In line with this unique approach,
UPNM develops its students through two categories:

🎓 Cadet Officers

📌 Bachelor’s Degree Programme
📌 Fully Sponsored Programme by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF)
(Including salary and allowances, accommodation, uniforms, and meals)
📌 Administered under the Armed Forces Training Academy (AFTA), MAF Headquarters
📌 Commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Malaysian Armed Forces

🎓 Civilian Students

📌 Civilian students pursue academic studies under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and are exposed to character development, leadership training, and defence awareness.
Co-curricular involvement complements their learning experience towards producing well-balanced, forward-looking graduates.

HEPA is responsible for safeguarding student welfare through personal development support, counselling services, career development, and alumni networking, in line with the aspiration to produce well-balanced and competitive graduates.
